Information Technologies for Environmental Decision-Making in Networked Society
نویسندگان
چکیده
Environmental decisions are difficult because of complex physical, technological components, economic and social influences and impacts. The complexity of the physical and technological aspect led to the development of many simulation models and decision support systems including spatial decision support and geographic information systems augmented with decision support components. Lack of mechanisms allowing social participation and conflict resolution during all stages of the decisionmaking often leads to undesired results including social unrest and rejections of good compromises. Assuming that (1) the public needs to actively participate in environmental conflict decision-making, and (2) the emerging networked society and its various organizations can gain access to highly sophisticated information technologies, we discuss the opportunity to construct and use electronic agora support systems. These systems utilize technologies embedded in e-business systems providing facilities for learning about environmental problems, sharing information and knowledge, engaging in disputes, creating alternative scenarios and assessing them, and making decisions in a collaborative framework. 1 This work has been supported by grants from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada and from Concordia University. New Realities of the Enterprise Management System Information Support: Economic and Mathematical Models and Cloud Technologies
The paper focuses on the urgency of the implementation of cloud technologies, which are a necessary condition for the development of enterprise management systems, give rise to a complex of insufficiently studied phenomena and processes and determine the need to find new tools in making and implementing reasonable management decisions. In the process of research, the sequence of construction an...
متن کاملICT and the future conditions for democratic governance
Introduction The use of technology is an important factor in the organisation of our society. When we speak of a model for the future society we often use the term the information society or the networked society. Information society and network society are not new concepts but have existed for many years (Machlup, 1962 and Nora & Minc, 1980). The reason that these definitions are on the agenda...
متن کاملSocial Technologies for Developing Collective Intelligence in Networked Society
The scientific problem in our project is defined as a question: how social technologies could contribute to the development of smart and inclusive society? The subject of our research are networked projects (virtual CI systems) which include collective decision making tools and innovation mechanisms allowing and encouraging individual and team creativity, entrepreneurship, online collaboration,...
متن کاملAn integrated model of fuzzy multi-criteria decision making and stochastic programming for the evaluating and ranking of advanced manufacturing technologies
Investment appraisal in advanced manufacturing technologies (AMTs) has been receiving considerable attention over the past three decades. As stated in numerous studies, traditional engineering economic methods cannot adequately justify investments in AMTs. Thus, beside these methods, some other solutions have been proposed in this field. The methods applied in the evaluation of AMTs can be clas...

Baseline data represent one of the important stages of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) procedure that describes the existing environment of the study area and surrounding areas in enough detail to allow the environmental impacts of the proposed area to be accurately and adequately assessed, and future changes and effects can be measured. Baseline data may be inaccurate, difficult to obtai...
